About Sylvie

In 2013, I was lucky enough to be diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder (pyoderma gangrenosum - in human talk, a disorder that basically makes my skin hate itself). "Lucky!?", You say. Yes, lucky. And here is why... It is a reminder of a wonderful time in my life: having my daughter, being supported by a wonderful man and family, and finally finding my daily yoga practice.  Sure, it was also time of struggle, daily medications, weekly injections, and pain. But without it, I don't think I would have such an appreciation of the beauty and kindness that exists in this world.  I dabbled in yoga while I was getting my masters, but never really thought I would integrate the practice in my daily life.  After I managed to get off some immunosuppressive medication (and got the "OK" to interact with other germy ;) people), I sought out yoga as away of getting back to myself.  The rest... is history...

I got hooked and began a daily asana practice.  Slowly but surely, my wounds healed and I was able to get off all medications completely. I began to feel like myself again.  I fed of the off energy of the wonderful community that exists at Tiny Buddha Yoga, and felt inspired by the "right off the bat" acceptance for who I was - with or without my scars.  For the first time in over 2 years, I began to feel like me again.  I developed a longing to deepen my practice, deciding to become an even more dedicated student of yoga, and pursue my RYT-200.  Through that experience it became clear to me that not only am I meant to enjoy the gift that is yoga, but I am also meant to share that gift with others.  For me, yoga has become more than just asana, it is a way to share my positivity, optimistic nature, and resilience with the world, in hopes to make one person at a time feel more and more like her truest self.

Posture of the Month:

Baddha Hasta Sirsasana - Bound Headstand

I am loving getting upside down these days!  Inversions are a great way to see the world from a new perspective AND a really great way to send some oxygenated blood to your face after an hour of grounding practice!  They say these inversions are what keeps yogis looking so young... so you better believe these will be in my daily practice!  :)  Experienced head stander?  Try making some fun shapes while your feet reach toward the sky.  New to headstands? Ask the advice of your favorite yoga teacher to help get you started working on head stand prep (remember it is never a good idea to kick up into a posture that compromises your neck!) Go ahead everybody - get upside down!
